Herman Records was founded in 1979 by Trygve Hernæs, record salesman and jazz enthusiast. The first record on the Herman label was HJLP 1001, released the same year from a recording made in December, 1977, by the Sammy Rimington Quartet. Then two debut albums by Norwegian bands followed: Canal Street Jazz Band (1979), and Hot Club de Norvege (1981).
During the following years, right up to 2010, several of the best and most well known Norwegian bands and musicians in the field of Traditional Jazz have made recordings for, or having been presented on Herman Records. Just take a look at the catalogue listing!
Herman Records stands for high quality old style jazz, recorded in good high fidelity stereophonic sound. One of the latest releases, A Hot Reunion by The Union Rhythm Kings (HJ HDCD 1040), has even been recorded in SACD Surround Sound! If you happen to have such playback equipment available; give it a spin, and you will be astonished! Old style jazz in the absolute most modern and finest sound you can think of.
